Everything Is Changing.

New mandates are coming to air conditioning. If you have been thinking about installing AC or upgrading your current air conditioning system, read on. In addition, new tariffs will certainly affect the price of all new equipment.

Let’s break it down

What are the new rules about? The coolant is changing to a new, more eco-friendly one. The old refrigerant is being discontinued. Remember when it changed before and chlorofluorocarbons were banned? Well, it worked! The hole in the ozone layer is shrinking because we discontinued the use of CFCs. This new refrigerant is even less harmful to the environment than the current one. So that’s a good thing.

Another good thing? If your AC system is running well you do not need to upgrade it. Just let it keep on keeping on. The current refrigerant and equipment will be supported for 20 years.

If your system is old, however, and nearing the end of its useful life, you should consider replacing it now, while current systems are available. The new refrigerant requires new equipment and, naturally, it’s more expensive.

Timing Matters

Air conditioners manufactured this year are required to use the new refrigerant. However, there are still lots of AC systems made in previous years that are ready to be installed and this year (only) they can still be put in. This one-year grace period allows you to get a new system at old pricing, so if you are considering installing a new air conditioning system, call us now to get a quote.

On top of that, there are the new tariffs that will be especially onerous on equipment, like air conditioning, that uses metal. Even companies that build their AC equipment in the US, have to source their materials from somewhere. Look for prices to climb on HVAC systems due to tariffs.

Don’t wait until the hot, humid, sweltering New Jersey summer descends. Act now.
